Final Fantasy IV Game Script
This is a companion piece to the non-dialogue translation guide, and consists solely of the game’s dialogue. It is based on Final Fantasy IV Advance’s script as it’s the easiest for me to work with. If a given line has kanji, it will be displayed in bold type; the official translation will be given in italics.
Aboard the Red Wings
へいし「セシルたいちょう！ まもなく バロンにつきます！」
兵士「セシル隊長！まもなくバロンに着きます！」
Soldier: “Commander Cecil! We’ll be arriving at Baron soon!”
Crewman: Captain, we will arrive at Baron shortly.
セシル「ああ……。」
Cecil: “Right…”
Cecil: Very well.
へいし「やはり たいちょうも……」
兵士「やはり、隊長も……」
Soldier: “Even the Commander…”
Crewman: The captain seems kinda down.
へいし「いくら めいれいとはいえ…… つみもないひとから クリスタルを……。」
兵士「いくら命令とはいえ……罪もない人からくりすたるを……。」
Soldier: “It was wrong, even if we were ordered to take the Crystal from innocent people…”
Crewman: After what we did, who wouldn’t be? Orders are orders, but killing innocent people to get the Crystals isn’t right.
へいし「われわれ あかいつばさは ほこりたかき ひくうていだん！ かよわいものから りゃくだつはど！」
Soldier: “We’re the Red Wings, the pride of the airship fleet! To stoop to robbing innocent people makes a mockery of us!”
セシル「やめるんだ！」
Cecil: “Enough!”
へいし「しかし たいちょう！」
Soldier: “But, Commander…!”
へいし「むていこうな まどうしたちから りゃくだつするなんて！」
Soldier: “We stole from a bunch of unresisting mages!”
セシル「いいか みんな！ クリスタルはわがバロンこくの はんえいのため どうしても ひつようだ。 ミシディアの ものたちは クリスタルの ひみつを しりすぎているとの へいかの ごはんだんだ。 われわれは バロンこく ひくうていだん バロンの あかいつばさだ！ へいかのめいれいは ぜったいなのだ……。」
Cecil: “Listen up, everyone! To ensure Baron’s prosperity, we must secure the Crystals at all costs. His Majesty judged that Mysidia knew too much about the Crystal’s secrets. We’re the pride of Baron’s airship fleet, the Red Wings! His Majesty’s orders are unquestionable.”
へいし「たいちょう……。」
Soldier: “Commander…”
へいし「たいちょう まものが！」
Soldier: “Commander, monsters dead ahead!”
セシル「そういん せんとうはいび！」
Cecil: “All hands, man battle stations!”
へいし「ぐわっ！」
Soldier: “Gah!”
セシル「だいじょうふか？」
Cecil: “You okay?”
へいし「まだ きます！」
Soldier: “More inbound!”
セシル「くそッ！」
Cecil: “Damnit!”
セシル「みんな ふじか？」
Cecil: “Everyone okay?”
へいし「はい！」
Soldier: “Yes, sir!”
へいし「しかし ちかごろ まものの かずが……」
Soldier: “But, monsters have been increasing lately…”
へいし「たしかに あまりに おおすぎる。」
Soldier: “It’s getting out of hand, that’s for damn sure.”
セシル「なにかが…… おころうと しているのか？」
Cecil: “What’s this world coming to…?”
へいし「バロンに とうちゃくしました！」
Soldier: “We’ve arrived at Baron!”
セシル「よし ちゃくりくだ。」
Cecil: “Good, prepare to land.”
Baron
ベイがん「おお クリスタルを てにいれた のですね。」
Baigan: “Ah, I expect you have the Crystal.”
セシル「……しかし ミシディアの ひとびとは まるで むていこうだった……。」
Cecil: “...But the people of Mysidia didn’t even resist…”
バイガン「なにをおっしゃるのです。さあ へいかが おまちです。」
Baigan: “What are you talking about? Come, His Majesty is waiting.”
バイガン「セシルどの しばし おまちください。」
Baigan: “Sir Cecil, please wait here a few minutes.”
バイガン「へいか……。 おそれながら セシルの やつめが へいかに ふしんを いだいているようすです。」
Baigan: “Your Majesty… With all due respect, Cecil and his underlings are beginning to doubt Your Majesty.”
バロンおう「まことか！ さすがは このえへいちょう。 よく しらせてくれた！ だが クリスタルさえ てにはいれば よう。 セシルを よんでまいれ。」
King Baron: “Truly? It is to be expected, Guard Commander. Well done for informing me! Still, to have the Crystal… Call Cecil in.”
バイガン「は。」
Baigan: “Yes, sire.”
バイガン「セシルどの へいかが およびです。 どうぞ。」
Baigan: “Sir Cecil, His Majesty requires your presence.”
バロンおう「セシル ごくろうであった。 で クリスタルは？」
King Baron: “Cecil, we appreciate your efforts. The Crystal is…?”
セシル「はっ こちらに。」
Cecil: “Here, Your Majesty.”
「みずのクリスタル」を てわたした。
Handed over the Water Crystal.
バイガン「ほんものの ようです。」
Baigan: “It seems genuine.”
バロンおう「そうか！ おお なんと まばゆう！ さがってようぞ セシル！」
King Baron: “Oh! Such splendor! Dismissed, Cecil!”
セシル「へいか！」
Cecil: “Your Majesty!”
バロンおう「な なんじゃ！」
King Baron: “H-huh?!”
バイガン「な なんです！」
Baigan: “W-what?!”
セシル「へいかは いったい どういうおつもりです？ みな へいかに ふしんを いだいております！」
Cecil: “Your Majesty, what on earth are you intending? Everyone is beginning to doubt Your Majesty’s secrecy!”
バロンおう「おまえを はじめとしてか？」
King Baron: “Including yourself?”
セシル「！ けして そのような……。」
Cecil: “Of course not…!”
バロンおう「わたしが なにも しらぬとでもおもっているか！ おもえほどのものが わたしを しんらい してくれぬとはな……。 ざんねんだが これいじょう おまえに あかいつばさを まかせては おけん！ いまより ひくうてい ぶたいちょうの にんを とく！」
King Baron: “Do you seriously think I know nothing? I cannot help but think your loyalty is wavering. I cannot trust leadership of the Red Wings with one such as yourself! You are relieved of all duties pertaining to the airship fleet!”
セシル「へいか！」
Cecil: “Your Majesty!”
バロンおう「かわって げんじゅう とうばつの にんに つけい！ ミストのたにふきんに まぼろしの まもの げんじゅうが しゆつぼつ するそうだ。 そのまものをたおし ミストのむらへ このボムのゆびわを とどけるのだ。 しゆっぱつは あすのあさだ！」
King Baron: “Your new assignment shall be to hunt Eidolons! It seems that a monstrous Eidolon has claimed the Mist Valley. I bid you exterminate the monster and deliver this Bomb Ring to the village of Mist. You shall depart tomorrow morning!”
カイン「おまちください！」
Cain: “Sire, wait!”
カイン「セシルは そんな……。」
Cain: “Cecil was just…”
バロンおう「カイン。 こやつのことが しんぱいなら おまえも セシルと ともに ゆけ！」
King Baron: “Cain. If this person concerns you so much, you and Cecil will leave together!”
セシル「へいか！」
Cecil: “Your Majesty!”
バロンおう「もう はなすことはない！ そのゆびわをもち さがるがよい！」
King Baron: “Go, already! Take charge of this ring and begone!”
「ボムのゆびわ」を てにいれた。
Obtained the Bomb Ring.
セシル「へいか！」
Cecil: “Your Majesty!”
セシル「すまない カイン おまえまで……。」
Cecil: “Cain, I’m sorry you…”
カイン「その げんじゅうとやらを たおせば へいかも ゆるしてくださる。 また あかいつばさに もどれるさ。」
Cain: “His Majesty will surely forgive you once you’ve killed the Eidolon. I’m sure you’ll be reinstated with the Red Wings when we return.”
セシル「……。」
Cecil: “...”
カイン「きにするな。 じゅんびは おれにまかせて こんやは ゆっくりやすめ。」
Cain: “Don’t worry about it! Leave the preparations to me and go rest tonight.”
Talking Time: Baron
「さいきんの へいかからは いようなふんいきを かんじるのですが……。」
“His Majesty’s whims are unusual these days…”
「わたしは へいかを しんじてます！」
“I have faith in His Majesty!”
「へいかについて いろいろ いわれていますが へいかのみみにでも はいったら……。」
“I’ve heard a number of rumors about His Majesty, but if he were to catch wind of them…”
「いのちが おしければ へんなことは おかんがえに ならないことです。」
“Don’t disappoint me.”
「ミストのたには バロンより ほくせい。 いつも ふかいきりが たちこめてるそうです。」
“The Mist Valley is northwest of Baron. It’s usually shrouded with heavy fog.”
「わが りゅうきしたいの カインさんと あかいつさの セシルさんが くめば コワいもんなしでしょう！」
“Crossing Sir Kain of the Dragon Knights or Sir Cecil of the Red Wings can be pretty scary!”
「ミシディアから クリスタルを もってきた そうですね！」
“Mysidia no longer posseses the Crystal, right?”
「……！？ ね ねてなんかいませんよ！」
“...!? N-no, I wasn’t sleeping at my post!”
「スリプル！ あれ？ ねむくない？ おかしなあ。」
“Sleeper! Eh? Not sleepy? Odd…”
「はやく じっせんに やくばつよう けんきゅうの さいちゅうです。」
“We’ll learn from seeing actual combat soon.”
「ファイア ブリザド サンダーの きほんまほう だけでは てに おえない まものもいる。 よりきょうりょくな まほうが かつてな あったらし のだが……。」
“ Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder aren’t just fundamental magic, but they expel monsters, too. More powerful magic exists, but since that accident the other day…”
「ローザは あなたのちからに なりたいといって しろまどうしの みちを えらんだのよ。 あまり ローザに しんぱいかけないでね！」
“Rosa wanted to be helpful to you, so she became a White Mage. Rosa’s assistance is very laudable, no?”
「さいきんの へいかは いぜんにも まして せいめいりょくが みなぎられている。 しかし どこか……」
“These days, His Majesty’s health has been extraordinary for someone as old as he is. But, somehow…”
「しょほの しろまほうを けんきゅう している どころです。 しろまほう さんだん かつよう ケアル ケアルラ ケアルダ！」
“We’re researching the basics of White Magic. Cure, Curera, and Cureda are three applications of White Magic!”
「このへやの たからを げんじゅうとうばつに もっていってよいとのことです。 かべにあるスイッチを おせば とびらが あきます。」
“You may take the treasure here for your Eidolon hunt. On the wall is a switch you can press to open the door.”
「ここは だいだいバロンに つたわる まうもつが あんちされていて たちいりは きんじられています。」
“The passage behind me is off-limits; it has been protected by Baron for generations.”
「シドおやかたを みませんでしたか？ ひくうていの せいびを わたしらに まかせて なにやら かんがえごと してるんですよ。」
“Have you seen Master Cid? We’ve completed maintenance on the airships.”
「あーあ きょうも てつやか。 お おやかたには ないしょですよ！ し しごとは たのしーなーっと！」
Conversation with Cain
カイン「どうした？」
Cain: “What’s up?”
セシル「すまなかった カイン……。」
Cecil: “I’m sorry to have troubled you, Cain…”
カイン「また そんなことを いってるのか。 おまえらしくもない。」
Cain: “It’s still bugging you? That’s not like you, Cecil.”
セシル「ぼくは へいかの めいれいで あんこくけんを きわめた。 でも それは バロンをまもるためで つみもない ひとびとから りゃくだつを するためでは なかったはずだ。」
Cecil: “At His Majesty’s request, I chose to take up the blade of darkness. But…I did so to protect the people of Baron. It galls me to steal from the innocent.”
カイン「そんなに じふんをせめるな。 へいかにも おかんがえが あってのことだ。」
Cain: “Don’t get suicidal on me. His Majesty’s ill mood will surely pass.”
セシル「カイン おまえが うらやましいよ。」
Cecil: “You’re jealous, Cain.”
カイン「おれのちちも りゅうきしだった。 あんこくけんを きわめれだ かいきゅうも あがるだろうが おれには こっちのほうが しょうにあう。 それに りゅうきしで いれば おさないころ しにわかれた ちちを いつでも かんじられる きがしてな……。」
Cain: “My father was a Dragon Knight. I’m sure if I took up the blade of darkness, I’d have a higher rank. Death took my father from me when I was too young to understand, so I became a Dragon Knight to keep his memory alive…”
セシル「……。」
Cecil: “...”
カイン「フッ らしくない はなしを してしまったな。 ともかく かんがえすぎるな。 おまえがそんなじゃ はりあいがない。 げんじゅうを たおすのは おれだぞ。」
Cain: “Heh, damn. Don’t think too much about that, anyway. I’ll take down that Eidolon before you can, I bet.”
セシル「ぼくも まけはしない！」
Cecil: “Ha, as if!”
カイン「あすは はやい。 はやくやすめ。」
Cain: “'Til tomorrow, then. Rest well tonight.”
